In a major move to support sustainable hospitality, HotelREZ Hotels & Resorts has announced the rollout of the ECOsmart certification programme across its network of independent and boutique hotel members.
The partnership with Greengage, creators of the ECOsmart sustainability standard, will provide HotelREZ member properties with access to a recognised environmental accreditation, practical guidance, and a clear pathway to improving ESG performance.
“Sustainability is now a key driver for corporate and leisure bookings,” said Mark Lewis, CEO of HotelREZ.
“By partnering with Greengage, we’re helping our hotels meet this demand with credible, independent certification that sets them apart in a competitive marketplace.”
The ECOsmart programme evaluates hotels across a wide range of sustainability criteria, including energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, ethical sourcing and community engagement. Certified properties receive a rating — ECOsmart Certified, Gold or Platinum — and tailored recommendations for ongoing improvement.

Initial uptake has been strong, with over 50 member properties enrolling in the programme during the pilot phase. Early participants have already reported improved corporate appeal, reduced utility costs, and positive guest feedback.
